Assassin's Creed II review - "Take 2 Reviews"

The Take 2 Reviews are video game reviews of games from the past (classic video games) that are still appealing today. Don't miss out on classic games just because the graphics aren't HD/4K, 1080p and all of that high tech non-sense. Old video games have a special place in gamer's hearts, and this segment of video game reviews is for you!

Assassin's Creed II Video Game Review

Get ready to plunge into the lush and deadly world of the Italian Renaissance, and thrive in an environment with power, revenge, and conspiracy. Here is Matt Miller's review of Assassins Creed II.

Assassin's Creed II is a 2009 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft.[1] It is the second major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, a sequel to 2007's Assassin's Creed, and the first chapter in the Ezio trilogy. The game was first released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2009, and was later made available on Microsoft Windows in March 2010 and OS X in October 2010. Several minor game related features could be redeemed on Uplay and three downloadable expansion packs were released on Xbox Live.

The plot is set in a fictional history setting and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Knights Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and follows Desmond Miles as he relives the genetic memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The main narrative takes place at the height of the Renaissance in Italy during the 15th and early 16th century. Players can explore Florence, Venice, Tuscany and Forlì as they guide Ezio on a quest for vengeance against those responsible for betraying his family. The primary focus is to utilize the player's combat and stealth abilities, as Desmond begins to uncover the mysteries left behind by an ancient race known as the First Civilization in the hope of ending the conflict between the Assassins and Templars.

  • Amazing story
  • Fun gameplay
  • Well thought out story
  • Revised the franchise
  • Had an amazing character development
  • Historically intriguing

  • Buggy controls (running around on rooftops trying to make a small jump and the game reads it as your jumping off)
  • Sound not syncing or mutes while subtitles continue
  • Wall Glitches or seeing a ledge that Ezio won't grab
  • Group of enemies surround you? HA they each go one by one as you kill them systematically

CONGRATULATIONS! You just won a trip to Italy! 1400 Italy that is! In Assassin's Creed 2 you play as a young man named Ezio Auditore da Firenze that witnesses a horrific act towards his family that leads him into a life of revenge and killing that is the assassins. I played the first Assassin's Creed when it first came out and haven't really touched it since, but this game having just replayed it I can vouch you don't need to play the first to know the whole story, it helps but not needed. AC2 is an amazing game from start to finish, it has amazing game play and story arcs that make you want to play it over and over, and I have on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. AC2 does have its issues like the game not knowing what you want but I chalk that up to software limitations.
