Decoding the Red Dead Redemption 2 Teaser Trailer

Decoding the Red Dead Redemption 2 Teaser Trailer

Rockstar has finally released the trailer for the new Red Dead Redemption 2 releasing Fall 2017.

At first glance, the trailer is nothing but a teaser, and some may be angry over this, but after picking it apart, we have some valuable insight. We see it in a different way, and we will break down each part of the trailer and give you our predictions of what all of it means, while using the past games, including Grand Theft Auto, to decide the direction Rockstar is going.

1) The Size of the Map

In the following screenshots from the trailer, you will notice how pretty the game and scenery are. That part is to appeal to the simple minded people watching. But look at the size of the area you can travel. If you remember the feeling you got when you realized the map on the original game was much larger once you got to Mexico, that appears to be a fraction of what Red Dead Redemption 2 has to offer. Okay, I will be simple minded too for a minute, this game is GORGEOUS! Look at the light shining through the trees...wow, stunning.

2) In game Survival and Hunting

As you may remember, in the first installment of Red Dead Redemption, there was tons of hunting and skinning of animals to earn money, but there was no survival aspect to the game. With the trend in video games moving toward gaining resources (food, materials to craft, and buying/selling) we predict Rockstar will integrate this into the new game. In one of the clips from the trailer (shown below) a cowboy is walking with his horse which appears to be carrying a dead animal (maybe a deer?). Also, from the looks of it, you will be out in the woods too along with the open plains. As for the camping scene in the trailer (as shown below) it is unclear as to if that is part of the game play or if it is something you would wander upon in the woods. If it is somebody randomly in the woods that you can walk up on, that is also amazing, showing a depth of people in the world rather than open world emptiness.

3) Many Transportation Options

As you will see in the screenshots below, there is MANY ways to travel around the vast western plains that Rockstar has created. The trailer shows a group paddling in a canoe down a river, a large locomotive soaring by a herd of animals in the plains, a horse and cart the haul you around which was actually a large part of fast travel in the original game, and lastly the ole horse ride as you see the cowboy hop on top of his steed to ride through the wind.

4) The STORY

So this is the big part, the part we all want to know about! If you have ever played Red Dead Revolver, you know how the story begins. You are on your farm when it is attacked and your parents are murdered, and you seek revenge. In the trailer, a voice says "When the time comes, you gotta run and don't look back." Although the meaning of this is unclear, one thing is clear, something awful has happened to this farm that is on fire, and you can feel the revenge building in the cowboy standing near the flames as it burns. Could there be some sort of tie to the Red Dead Revolver game? Only time will tell.

5) Multiple Characters

The trailer, and the tease twitter post showed many characters together and we find this significant. As in Grand Theft Auto 5, we believe you will play the story of multiple players in Red Dead Redemption, from possible a cowboy, a haggler, an indian, or who ever else.
